Angel Campey

A recent addition to the Jou Ma Se Comedy Club ‘Support’ comedian file is Cape Town local, Angel Campey.

Realising she had the perfect name to be a stripper, but possessing no co-ordination or dance skills, Angel fell in love with irony at a young age. She developed her wit to get through an awkward age, which she’s still hoping to grow out of.

Angel found a stand-up comedy mic for the first time in June 2011 and hasn’t looked back since (which sucks for the things she sometimes drops behind her.)

 Notable career moments:.

She was selected by Alan Committee to open his Fugard Fest of Comedy at the Fugard Theatre in Cape Town as a ‘Breakthrough comedian’  in December 2011. She opened the Vodacom Funny Festival in 2012 with a stand up routine at the Baxter opening night, as well as opening for Joey Rasdien’s one man show mixed-DNA at a sold out Johannesburg Vodafone Dome in 2012.

Her one woman show, “Yes Really Angel” was directed by Nik Rabinowitz and produced by Siv Ngesi and debuted at the National Arts Festival in 2013 – running for 8 performances to critical acclaim.

One of the Queens of Comedy for Comedy Central’s ‘Kings and Queens of Comedy’ Angel has performed at Emporer’s Palace in JHB and the Convention Centre in Cape Town alongside South Africa’s top comedians in a number of performances from 2012 – 2013. (televised on Comedy Central channel 122)

Angel is completely at peace with having turned 30 this year and yet still being single, as she has found the love of her life – Comedy. This is especially great because she travels too much to get a cat.
